DB to Swindon?
Re: DB to Swindon?
As an aside, Wealdstone have appointed Matty Taylor as their new manager.

Re: DB to Swindon?
TK’s recent track record of managers is poor, which is really worrying.
If, as seems likely, DB goes, what are our options?
Bassey would be high on my list

Re: DB to Swindon?
Bassey didn't want the job last time, why would he want it now?
Re: DB to Swindon?
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to stay or was unhappy with us. At that time, he had another very attractive offer to become a first team coach at a huge club in Portsmouth. As he said himself, “I was planning on staying for a longer period of time, but ultimately an opportunity has come up for me to work at a higher level and it’s a fantastic opportunity for me; one that I felt I couldn’t turn down’ (https://www.barnetfc.com/club-statement ... r-new-role).
I don’t know what he’s doing now, but he’s no longer at Portsmouth. He might fancy a crack as a Head Coach and may not be giving up such a plum job to do so.
Personally I think Matt Gray is a stand-out candidate. He won the Conference with an unfancied, relatively small club on limited resources. We just have to ask him to do the same again! As I say, though, he may represent too drastic a departure in terms of playing style, as his Sutton teams were very direct and we’ve got up to 16 players all recruited and coached to play a possession-based game. If we’re going for continuity in terms playing style I don’t know who the candidates would be.

Fairly recent article on Bassey which I coincidentally came across earlier in the week. Mentions Bees.

Re: DB to Swindon?
If DB really is leaving - better it happens now than later in the Summer
Re: DB to Swindon?
You’d have thought if he’s offered a managerial role he wanted to take they’d be accommodating and let him go.jerroll wrote: ↑10 May 2024, 22:43He is working on summer recruitment with the Cowleys at Col uTuesds wrote: ↑10 May 2024, 22:37It wasn’t that he didn’t want to stay or was unhappy with us. Your last couple of sentences are why I don’t want him or Luke Garrard (who’s been mentioned on Twitter)Tuesds wrote: ↑10 May 2024, 22:37It wasn’t that he didn’t want to stay or was unhappy with us. Hardest thing in football is to find a winning formula. This team has just accumulated 86 points. It would be madness for a manager to come in and completely unravel what got us to that points total by playing a completely different style of play.
For me, we should be looking for a manager that has a similar style to DB. With fresh eyes, you’d hope they would have a few tricks of their own to squeeze that little bit extra out of the group and add their own players to enhance the squad

Re: DB to Swindon?
I don't want Garrard, (despite the fact that I like him and think he did a very good job at Boring Wood).
I thought Bassey did an amazing job with us before, but I also think we've moved on from where we were then, (so less sure now).
I don't want us to appoint MG simply because he's been here before and we have a relationship with him. I want a proper recruitment process where we really look for and appoint the best manager for us.
The bigger problem for me, (than recruiting a Manager), is appointing a Head of Recruitment.
We appointed DB in the 1st place so that when a situation just like this happened, we wouldn't lose everything in 1 foul sweep. If DB does join Swindon, (and good luck to him if he does), then we should be appointing a Manager AND a Head of Recruitment/Director of Football/Whatever you want to call it.
We can't keep letting 1 manager leaving derail us.
Almost ll the clubs who have progressed significantly through the leagues have had recruitment done by the club rather than an individual Manager.

DB to Swindon?
At the risk of being piled on, I actually wouldn’t turn my nose up at Luke Garrard. Totally outfoxed Brennan in last season’s eliminator. Self-proclaimed Barnet boy. Just went stale at Wood this season. Think he’ll do well at his next club.

Agree about Gerrard, although I fear we are well in the minority!BeesKnees99 wrote: ↑11 May 2024, 01:02 TK got lucky with DB, a very competent (if not exceptional) National League manager with a generally good eye for recruitment and a positive motto of togetherness which helped lift the club out of a hole.
But the messiah he is not. He is replaceable and I strongly suspect Swindon will be a step too far. It’s just TK’s abysmal track record of appointments that causes most concern.
