Chris is being silly, with his irrational distaste for AFC Wimbledon preferring to refer to MK Dons as the true legacy AFC Wimbledon.

Must admit you confused me Chris in my virus induced state of mind!

Question still stands are we playing AFC Wimbledon at home or away on August 3rd? I actually hope the latter.

Like button activated.

As with Kingstonian we no longer play at home.

Oh dear I have walked right into that one

Maybe it will be played at a neutral venue in Milton Keynes or maybe Dunstable or possibly Wembley Stadium or St Georges Park.

I now live too far away to get along to PSFs, so I have a question. Will there be any trialists on view this summer? I understand that we aren't exactly short of players like we have been some years, but it would be a pity to miss out on another Jason Puncheon because there was no opportunity to take a look at them.

For every Jason Puncheon played in PSF''s there are very many players who never appear again. We have a lot of new players who have been contracted for the upcoming season, wouldn't you agree that it is more important for them to be assimilated into the team / squad?

We did play a triallist at Hitchin, he didn't appear at Dunstable.

I get what you are saying, but I still think there is no harm in looking at a few trialists, after all you don't know who's out there unless you look.

Probably more likely to happen later on in the pre-season as I would suspect based on the number of players we have we will probably be having some training ground friendlies for those who aren't starting once we get to the stage where starters are playing 75+ mins in the friendly games.

We have always had trialists and still do, but trialists fall into different categories. Only a handful of trialists are players that we are actively looking to sign within weeks of trialing. Some are players that we want to keep an eye on for the future (e.g. Francis trialing last summer but not offered a contract until now) and some are players we have no intention of signing but a trial is mutually beneficial (players get to stay fit, we can use them in friendlies to avoid giving our own players more minutes than they need).

I think it essential that we do have a few "open" trial games as the close season wears on because there will be plenty of players, who have been cast adrift by EFL clubs, out there, who are desperately trying to get fixed up before they start struggling to pay the bills. They would probably bite your hand off for a reasonable regular income.
The trials may not yield anybody, but, as I said before, there could be another Jason Puncheon waiting to be picked up. You can only see what turns up. With the current state of our playing strength, we are under no pressure to take on just anybody who fill a shirt.

Maybe they would bite our hand off for a reasonable regular income but just how many players do we need? We already have 26 with squad numbers and I'd read that we would be keeping some money back in case we needed to get in loan player(s) to cover injuries in a specific position ( not sure whether the club said that or someone on here?).

You need 18 players for a matchday squad, Blower and Matejko are more likely to be playing age group football which leaves 24 which really should be sufficient until such time that players move on unless a real gem lands in our laps.

My point exactly. There is no harm looking for that gem. Maybe he will turn up, perhaps the search will prove fruitless. There is not the slightest hint of desperation to get a result, but you never know unless you try.

We are playing Hampton and Richmond away on Tuesday. They had a friendly cancelled so we have stepped in to play.
