Southend Utd take over in doubt
Southend Utd take over in doubt
Was it last week Southend had a postponed court appearance over the future of the club postponed yet again, but the current owner Ron Martin assured the court the sale of the club was very close to being finalised, Now today Justin Rees the head of the Consortium has stated he cannot a guarantee the sale will actually go through, suppose the court will let Southend or more importantly Ron Martin have yet more time to cancel her another court date, I do it course feel for the supporters, but his non payment to whoever it maybe, which seems to have been going on for many years, and now the sale, reports say it's down to the council over the property element part of the deal.
Re: Southend Utd take over in doubt
Is anybody surprised at this?

Should never have been allowed to start last seasons National League, but grace given as ex EFL.
Most clubs would not have been afforded the benefit of the doubt, and National League now need to act appropriately

National league should now give a deadline to have all outstanding debts paid and an assurance from the club that they can pay their way and fulfill all games this coming season. If they cannot give assurance then they should be removed from the league.

There must be a light at the end of the tunnel because, according to reports, Still and Maher have got players lined up for next season. No player would touch any club with a 10 foot bargepole without certain assurances.
Of course it maybe that the latest developments have put a (temporary?) spoke in the wheel.

Players might have provisionally shown interest but as long as Southend are under a transfer embargo nothing further can happen. You can be certain that if in the meantime alternative clubs come up with satisfactory offers they'll sign there instead.

I wonder if this situation has stymied us signing Callum Powell

Re: Southend Utd take over in doubt
He's contracted to the end of next season. Southend stuck with him staying and running down his contract or selling him in the knowledge they can't sign a replacement. Of course that could change if he's not being paid and chooses to leave for breach of contract.

My understanding on Powell was he is out of contract. Southend had an option year they didn’t trigger and instead tried to negotiate a reduced salary for a new contract.
Re: Southend Utd take over in doubt
That being the case, now that they're under an embargo they can't now re-sign him and he's free to move on.

Looking at recent Twitter postings from Southend supporters many seem to be so despondent at the recent shenanigans that they would rather restart the whole thing as a Phoenix club somewhere down the steps. Very sad.

Totally agree. Just what does he want just hanging around and not making a decision?Doyley wrote:You cant blame them with Ron Martin never seeming to go away
