Re: Southend Utd take over in doubt
Obviously Southend still have some major hurdles to clear and hoops to jump through. However, if the way is cleared in the next couple of weeks, things should move quickly as, according to the Echo, Still and Maher have still been working hard behind the scenes and have players lined up to come in. I suppose this does offer some hope to their long-suffering fans, who seem to be victims of a whole lot of brinkmanship.
The behind-the-scenes hard work of Still and Maher should at least Southend won't face the situation that we faced post Flashman when we played the season-opener with a group of players that had only been introduced to each other the day before.
It is sad for Southend that the general election came ar the wrong time with all the politicians otherwise engaged. Their (now former) MP had been working hard to get all sides on the same page.

Meanwhile though Southend will be losing potential signings - no player is going to decline other negotiations in order to stay loyal to an offer from a club which still has a chance of going to the wall.
I suspect at the moment, all that Southend fans really care about is coming through this mess with their club intact. How the club actually get on next season in NL is an issue for when it happens.

The advantage Southend have over us when we looked doomed is that at least they have backers ready to come onboard (although they could get fed up and bugger off). We had no prospects at all until Buchler and the cavalry came riding over the hill as we were in the death throes.becbee wrote: ↑12 Jun 2024, 07:26 Meanwhile though Southend will be losing potential signings - no player is going to decline other negotiations in order to stay loyal to an offer from a club which still has a chance of going to the wall.

As for recruitment, we had poor Gary Phillips doing everything without knowing if he would be on the dole come August. At least Still and Maher have seemingly been putting in the spade work. It is likely that, if things do get sorted out, it will be very late and some targets will have gone elsewhere, but I doubt Southend will be in the same state that we were come kick-off day.
My prediction is that Southend will survive because all sides have too much to lose if they go under. They probably won't start with the strongest of squads, but will improve as recruitment is stepped up. I'm pretty sure they'll be pushing for the play-offs come April, providing the mess is sorted out PDQ.

Looks like by end of next week Southend United future will be decided 1 way or the other everything crossed they make it and that the prospective owners stay with it

Indeed correct. In the hands of Wrong Martin, I wouldn't bet on which way this one goes but hope it works the right way, no on deserves to lose their football club.
Re: Southend Utd take over in doubt
Despite Southend's antics in 1993 I don't want to see them go under, hope they can resolve their situation.

Not looking good still with winding up order for 500k odd 26th and June payroll due the consortium must be considering pulling put - latest accounts show they lost 2.5 million in last accounting year.

So they have to find £1 million for the bond, June wage bill and 500k for the wup all with no income- as grim as it gets

Re: Southend Utd take over in doubt
I can't see Ron paying that. The COSU lot could pay the bond but having already spent over £4m and still haven't got ownership of the club, are they going to continue throwing good money after bad?

Re: Southend Utd take over in doubt
Some good news re wup being sorted plus consortium still in assume League want sorted before season starts

I did read that there is a question mark over whether or not the £1m bond is legally enforceable because it unfairly singles out one club. All the others should be required to put up the same. Maybe this is just wishful thinking in the part of Southend fans.

It is.
Every NL club has to submit their budgetary plans to the NL before the start of the season to show that they can complete the forthcoming season. The NL need extra assurance from Southend, given all that has happened.
