NL showed last season that gave Southend benefit of the doubt as ex EFL, so suspect will again.

In my opinion an earlier solvency deadline should be set for clubs who had issues season previous

Cut off should have been the AGM, takeover sorted or the league acts and expels like they have done with the likes of Rushden,Halifax,Hereford,Scarborough etc but they were all ex FL clubs too!

The Southend situation is slightly different to these other cases in that they have financial backers ready to step in. Their problem is all the politics and wheeling & dealing involving the Martins and the council.
However, all this could change if things drag on and the consortium decide to pack up their tent and move on. The NL is right to be circumspect until things are decided one way or the other.
I suspect that some deal will eventually be cobbled together because it is in nobody's interest to see the club go under.
As for the playing side, the longer the transfer embargo is in place, the harder it is for Southend to build a team to be challenging come April. That said, John Still and Kevin Maher are canny operators, who are on record as saying they have been working hard on lining up players to come in once the way has been cleared to do so.
It is likely that if things go well for them, Southend will make a slow start to the season, but come on strong as time goes by and the players arrive. In other words, it will be much the same as last season when they had the points deduction to deal with.

The backers have been in place for months, the takeover should have happened long ago. As it is, the consortium have paid in £3.5 million without being able to take over. It comes down to whether they walk away and lose everything or keep throwing good money at the club with the risks attached.

I suspect the supporters consider what happens on the pitch this season to being secondary to actually having a team still in existence - and the Martins out of the picture.

I agree that all the other clubs weren't afforded months and months of leniency. Maybe things might have worked out differently for them if they had been. But there again, with hindsight, would Southend have been either ?

Fair play to the consortium, hope they can finally get rid of Ron Martin and allow a decent football club to thrive again and don't get ripped off in the process.

It's not over - deferred for yet more talks - I see no change other than Martin will be talking to takeover consortium. Is this grounds enough for National League to retract the bond requirement?

Do they still need to find the bond money for the league ?
No one likes to see a club struggle but at somepoint surely the league will loose patience along with the courts.
