Forest Green (Hive) The Just Stop Vince Match Thread
Moooo........ tomorrow sees the bees return to the Hive for the first time this season as we take on recently relegated Forest Green Rovers.
The fact that FGR have managed to scale the heights of the football league, including to the third tier is a credit to the wonderfully expansive ego of their owner who plowed money in to a team which would otherwise have probably succumbed to relegation to Conference South. As is often the way with these entrepeneurial owners they come with some baggage and Dale's is that he is a fierce vegan and environmental activist. Having moved the club from their home to a substandard stadium with dreadful vegan lager he is now looking at another stadium move to a more eco-friendly stadium.
His funding of the professional protester organisatino Just Stop Oil is what really irks me, much more than him forcing his views on a community asset. This group are so stupid they tried to glue themselves to an electric train in Canning Town and the resulting rough treatment by an enraged local tradesman was wonderful to see. The aim is right but the organisations method of protest and the kind of cretins it attracts are far from ideal.
On the pitch, as is often the case with vegans, they have run out of energy and returned to National League Football. A 4-0 victory over the weekend is a suitable warninhg that they will be a threat this season as Vince once again ploughs money in to his plaything to promote his brand. I am happy for supporters that they have this money coming in but it has to be said that a visit to their ground has all the pleasure of a cucumber eneama.
In terms of team lineup I don't think we will see much change in the space of 2 days. Collinge seems to be unfit and mentally scrambled so I expect him to be stood down and it may well be that Coker will have his minutes managed also. I would go:-
-------------------------------------------Hayes-----------------------------------------
---------------------Kizzi----------------Oluwu---------------Okimo-------------------
-----Hall-Johnson--------------Hartigan--------Tavares-------------Kanu------------
----------------------Wilkinson-----------------------Stead------------------------------
-------------------------------------Kabamba-----------------------------------------------
I am doing this one hoping we can get something from what will be a tough fixture

Do you think TK is forcing his views on people by serving meat at The Hive?

FGR moved to the New Lawn before Vince took over.

Any idea what time the Taylor Swift concert kicks out at Wembley tomorrow night? I fancy coming to the game but if changing at Wembley park is going to clash with 90K swifties who have been hitting the prosecco since 6am I might pass....

On Friday MS Swift finished at around 22:15. It was all very calm and ordered compared to Football crowds

Also doors open at 3.30pm and those who want to be on the pitch will be there queuing well before then. So fans will be in before Barnet / FGR fans arrival and we'll all be away before they leave. Think you'll be safe to attend.

More of a clash next month after the Altrincham game as England v Finland kicks off the same time (Alty turned down moving the game so expect the usual low crowd at the Hive).

I think it's hard to call team selection at the moment because we do have options.Bee_Forever wrote: ↑19 Aug 2024, 11:17I would go:-

I liked that DB used all 5 subs at the weekend, but wonder could we change things earlier at times?
The back 3 is tough. DC is our captain and having already dropped him to the bench, does he go 1 further and drop him from the squad? (No). At the same time, I think Kizzi has been very good and while I would like to see Okimo still utilised, we will benefit from stability at the back. I think WI would stick with the same back 3 who started on Saturday, but if we want someone to come on play centre of the 3, then it should be Okimo, (or Tavares), rather than DC. I would prefer to see DC compete with Kizzi on the right. I'm not saying he should never play in the centre, but I just think he's better there. Astonishingly, we miss 36 yo Okimo.
Tavares for Clifford is a big question, but as he only played 33 mins on Saturday, maybe it's too soon for him to start, (added to which Clifford was very good). I think the change will come, and I think DB will use both of them throughout the season. Clifford further forward is a completely different proposition than Clifford sitting beside Harts. I don't think we want anyone doing that.
RHJ is a shout, but obviously I'm not sure how fit he is. Not in Halifax squad at all and then not 1 of 5 subs used against Ebbsfleet suggests he's not ready yet, so I expect Idris & Coker to continue.
Brunty shouldn't be dropped after Saturday.
We have Sarfend at home at the weekend though, and maybe that's when we're more likely to see Tavares & RHJ start.
Wilkinson has come on in 87 & 91 mins. Would love to see him given 10 mins rather than just a couple.

Agree with Jim above other than I think we may see a forced change. Kenlock was holding his hamstring when he came off on Saturday. I think we could see Taveres in the back 3.
Formally WillesdenBee but upgraded in the world!

My first game of the season, looking forward to it. When I think of Forest Green I get PTSD of the worst pint I have ever had not just at a ground, but of all time.

So I bought 2 tickets for the bee army stand for tomorrow night. Read the supporters guide says its shut now? I hope they have got a good alternative and explanation tomorrow when I get there.

Taylor swift concert starts at 1840 or so
Re: Forest Green (Hive) The Just Stop Vince Match Thread
Hopefully Kenlock can shake it off, otherwise we'll need a good replacement to fill the blank space in the team. Hopefully, the team are ready for it as I knew Forest Green would be trouble. August can be a tricky time for teams, especially the first fortnight of matches. I am sure that Dean can mastermind that delicate balance between attack and defence to give us a result beyond our wildest dreams.

Should be a decent game, you’d feel both sides are happy that this game has come so soon into the season.
I’m also hoping the club shop has got some of last years gear on sale!
