Sarfend (Hive) The Currie On Regardless Match Thread
So..... Saturday sees us face off against the thames siders as we face Sarfend. Home of seafood, a long pier and our former coach.
Southend United are really a league one club and now that they have removed the Essex Lazarou from their club they will have high hopes of getting there as their sizeable support should allow a hefty transfer purse.
Despite being a larger club we always get a warm welcome there and some of our ITK also get the opportunity to lay additional flowers at the shrine of Saint Currie of the Spraytan. With Wes Fonguck now warming the bench at Ebbsfleet (when he can find it) Harry Taylor is the only ex bee on the playing staff at the Shrimpers. I have seen a few of their fans complaining about ticket releases but I am sure they will be ok in the whole of the 1966 stand and if not we will give them a block in legends. I just hope they don't let any success go to their heads and become insufferable like Chesterfiled and Notts County.
In terms of Barnet we were simply awful on Tuesday and I don't care if Forest Green Rovers stuffed their previous opponents 4-0 and are filled with League 1 Players we should be beating every team 5-0 as we are the favourites for the league and if we had taken a few of the speculative shots from the edge of the area with FGR players a yard away we definitely would have won 5-0.
In a world I like to call reality it will be another tough one and with us lacking striking options I can see it being won by the odd goal again. This is the team I would go with:-
--------------------------------------Hayes------------------------------------
-----------------Kizzi----------------Oluwu-----------------Kenlock---------
-----Kanu--------------------Tavares---------Hartigan--------Coker--------
----------------------Brunt-------------------------Clifford--------------------
--------------------------------------Stead---------------------------------------
Subs: Chapman, Gilmore, Okimo, Rye, Shelton, Francis, Hall-Johnson
I think casablanca is the way to go here. Chapman and RHJ may well force their way in in the coming weeks but if it ain't Ron Martin don't fix it.

Surely you’re not serious about being awful on Tuesday. I personally thought we were fantastic, patient on the ball against a real tough side who sat behind the ball the majority of the game. The constant shouts of shoot didn’t help.

Josh Walker is another ex-Bee on their playing staff. He missed their win on Tuesday, mind you, so he may not be involved on Saturday. Hope not, in light of his record against us for Dagenham…

Yes that remark by me was indeed sarcasm.
Oh I didn't realise the snake had signed for them. Not surprised as he did his disappearing act after Currie left and Jeremy took over.

If we don’t win the NL this season I hope the Shrimpers do. They have gone through hell over recent years (much like we did towards the end of Flashman’s reign).
Eastleigh are currently leading the division. God, I really hope they don’t do it. No tears shed from me if Eastleigh get relegated.
Having seen FGR on Tuesday and the way they tried to stifle our game my vote for NL Champions goes to a team that plays good, attacking, skillful football.
Barnet and Southend certainly try to do that. Saturday’s game will be a great advert for the NL. It should have been selected for the TV match.

Morning Bees fans.
I'll be making the trip again on Saturday and I'd expect around 1700+ from Southend.
We are still very much a club in progress.
We certainly aren't going to be the next Chesterfield, Wrexham etc. The new owners want to rejuvenate roots Hall and increase capacity. The ground is a relic, albeit a much loved one.
I have to be honest, underhill was a great away day. The hive not so much. Be great if you could moved back home.
As for the game. We are unbeaten but we aren't at full full tilt just yet. Still probably 2 or 3 players short.
The return of Noor Husin is huge for us. He oozes class that you rarely see at this level.
We also signed George Moncur. An enigma of a footballer. Deeply religious and on his day he will be head and shoulders at this level. A real game changer. Getting more than 45 mins out of him is the challenge. Do that and he could be the best signing in the league.
I wont be spending any money at the ground.
Last year was ridiculous. Ran out of food before half time and just 3 bar staff for so many. Took 45 mins to get a beer.
Here is hoping for a good game for two of the main players at this level. The season won't be decided by Saturdays result.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

Always liked Southend as a club, and spent many a summers day on the pristine beaches with the warm clear blue seas. Not to mention losing sometimes up to £2 on the slot machines.
I'm glad this one is getting out the way early doors because I suspect we will lose, and as the post above mentioned, the season will not be deiced tomorrow. I expect us or Sarfend to win the league personally.
Looking forward to this one nonetheless! BEES!!!

I definitely won't be driving.

The Forest Green game was unexpected as I thought it would be two good teams going at each other, rather than Forest Green impersonating a lower league club at a Premier League team in the cup. I don't expect Southend to be so passive.
It's a shame to be without Kabamba (although I'd hope his injury isn't that bad as he climbed the main stand twice to do co-comms on Tuesday).
If Clifford doesn't make Saturday, wonder if that opens the door for Chapman to make his first start?

I want to be good, is that not enough.

Disagree am glad they have not picked our game, Yes I know we will get picked for games in future (Like Wealdstone) but prefer a 3pm kick off.

You may need an ad blocker for this, but not a bad read from Chris Phillips. Roll on 3pm tomorrow, should be a good one.

I wonder whether we’ll miss Nicke tomorrow. We managed to get past FGR without him but Southend will pose a very different threat. Think it’ll be cagey, with two possession-based sides mainly cancelling each other out.
They’ll have the dangerous Cardwell up front - he didn’t play for them against us last season, if he had I’m not sure we’d have won either match.
Here’s hoping Steady can continue his electric form.

It should be much easier to involve Stead tomorrow than it was TuesdayBeesKnees99 wrote: ↑23 Aug 2024, 17:20 I wonder whether we’ll miss Nicke tomorrow.
