Goals and assists tally this season. (All competitions).

Post: # 379447Post Jimbokav1971 »

There was a Chesterfield account on Twitter that tracked all their goals and assists throughout the season last year, and I thought it was quite cool so I thought I would do the same.

I've been doing the same and this us updated as of the Maidenhead game on Monday.

Barnet Goals after game 5. 7 goals. There has been 1 more goal scored than assist generated because Shelts both won and scored a penalty against Sarfend and you can't be an assister for your own goal. Had he just won the pen but someone else scored it, they he would have been given an assist.

Stead 3.
Coker 1.
Brunty 1.
Chapman 1.
Shelton 1.

Barnet Assists after game 5. 6 assists.

Stead 1.
Clifford 1.
Kizzi 1.
RHJ 1.
Harts 1.
Hayes 1.

Discussion points.

1. No goal yet from Nicke, (although that's possibly understandable if he was carrying a knock in the early games).
2. No goals from attacking corners or free-kicks yet.
3. Only Stead has scored more than 1 goal.
4. No player has assisted more than 1 goal.
5. For a team that plays patient, controlled football, we already have a GK assist, (for Stead's goal against Maidenhead).
6. The only WB who has assisted a goal is RHJ, (who had hardly played), although Coker obviously scored our 1st goal of the season.
7. No goal or an assist yet for Kanu.

Isn't it rather too early in the season to form any conclusions?

Says a lot about Kanu’s game. He gets nowhere near enough goals or assists for a winger/wing-back. Southend’s RWB Gus Scott-Morriss has already scored four this season.

Yeah quite possibly. It's not something that tells us anything right now, but it will be interesting to keep an eye on it as the season progresses.

I like Kanu, but it's certainly going to be interesting to track not just his mins per goal/assist, but also compare them to Coker & RHJ.

At the moment RHJ is obviously leading the way.

Mins per offensive return.

RHJ. 133
Coker. 317
Kanu. NA

It could be argued that the absence of Nicke has impacted their attacking returns because you would have expected him to score more goals than we have scored without him, but it could also be argued that the player most impacted by this is probably Coker rather than Kanu or RHJ.

GSM is brilliant.

I must confess I'm not Kanu's biggest fan. I think he is severly lacking end-product and his falling over/simulations is easily read by the referees and they turn against him. I know he has a lot of fans, and I only get to see him on the TV, but from what I can see there,it's a frustrating thing to watch. He reminds me alot of Keanu Marsh-Brown. Never a doubt that he is gifted, but .....

Kanu’s goals record going into this season was 15 goals in 55 starts. Not out of this world, but very decent nonetheless and indeed a superior record to past Barnet wingers such as Adomah and Puncheon. He’s also asked to do more defensively than they were!

I think you make a really good point. We might see Kanu as a winger, but the truth is that he has a WB role and is asked to do a lot of tracking back that the others would never have done.

For his faults, he puts a right shift in.

Would love to know how many assists he provided in the 55 games before this season.

Curious what is average goals for a wing back in the National league, cannot imagine it being to high, for me Kanu is wasted as a wing back, I want to see him in final third either causing teams problems of resulting in them putting two players in him, which then should result in free space for our attacking creative midfield players.

Well GSM has 4 goals in 5 games from WB for Sarfend, so he will bring the average up a little.

According to Transfermarkt, Kanu got 6 assists last season, behind Brunt (10), Kabamba (9), Pritchard and Coker (both 7) and on par with Gorman.

He actually played fewer games than I was expecting last season.

His 7 goals and 6 assists in the league came in 23(10) appearances, so a goal involvement every 2.5 games.

Although he made 36(5) appearances in the 2022/23 season, (and scored 9 goals in all competitions), I can't find info on assists.

Kanu looks absolutely done by the end of games (Ebbsfleet in particular) so maybe all that running up and down the wing from defence to attack is taxing. A big ask to be involved in all of the departments.

I think we can all agree however that his crossing leaves a lot to be desired.

Shows pre-season really means nothing - I went to the Wimbledon game & Kanu was the best I've seen him in a long time & Wimbledon were awful.

1 month later & Kanu has been very poor & Wimbledon are near the top of the league & into round 3 of the EFL cup.
