Bees related injustices, grudges and righteous indignation
Re: Bees related injustices, grudges and righteous indignation
Probably more minor than a lot of the grievances listed here (which is ruining my Monday morning!) but also a mention for Neil Maupay who after scoring their "penalty" went over and taunted our goalkeeper (Will Huffer?) as he was on the floor.
Re: Bees related injustices, grudges and righteous indignation
I would say Maupay’s actions were far worse than Watkins. Watkins saw an opportunity and took it. Maupay is awful and his stats don’t back up his inflated sense of entitlementjzsbee wrote:Probably more minor than a lot of the grievances listed here (which is ruining my Monday morning!) but also a mention for Neil Maupay who after scoring their "penalty" went over and taunted our goalkeeper (Will Huffer?) as he was on the floor.

Re: Bees related injustices, grudges and righteous indignation
I have a big grudge against Paddy Crerand for his ignorant and one-eyed commentary in the DVD of the Manchester United match: not giving us any credit at all and being totally ignorant about the laws of the game, saying that Beeby was correct in sending Ross Flitney off. He just sounded like a pompous arse.johnnyfairbrotherbee wrote: ↑02 Sep 2024, 08:52 Beeby, Helibron & Stant are the top 3, thankfully all long ago now. Apart from the sending off Beeby spent the whole match treating the Man U players like precious pieces of porcelain, making it clear he had to protect them from those lower league oafs. It got mentioned on BBC Radio Lancashire/ Manchester that night and a caller - must have been a Barnet fan - said "tomorrow morning that ref will pull back his curtains and say 'I ruined a young goalies biggest match of his life last night and that feels great'." Agree that we morally won it 2-0.
Stant's smirk after the dive , it happened right in front of us. It was 'welcome to the football league guys' .In hindsight maybe my reaction was a bit hypocritical given Spike Carter's 'tumble' versus Welling to win a last minute penalty at the end of the previous season.
I'll throw in the referee, LIncoln City and every Lincoln fan responsible for that night in 1987...the racism, chants, the ref picking up a banana and smiling and laughing with a Linocln player as he did so. Never a single word of acknowledgement from Lincoln about it. Winning 6-0 there in 1991 laid it to rest for me!

Heilbron, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, gave an indirect free kick instead of the nailed on penalty didn't he?

Has to be that Lincoln ref. who let them get away with gbh, racism, flooding our dressing room, deflated footballs. One of the nastiest football grounds I’ve been to. Herbie came away from there a hero. Shame he didn’t chin the ref. as well.

Yep. There have been many times down the years that I've felt we've been hard done by, but they have all been either through bad fortune or sometimes incompetence. This is the only time where we were cheated and he knew that he bottled it.
I want to be good, is that not enough.

I'm the other way. Maupay treats absolutely everyone with complete disdain. So much so that I'm developed a sort of grudging acceptance of his absolute shithouse character. He recently got a loan move from Everton to somewhere in France, (Marseille possibly), and tweeted something in celebration in response to the Everton announcement. He has absolutely no shame and gives zero fecks about anyone or anything. Is he entitled? Dan right he is, but he's also not pretending otherwise.FredBee wrote: ↑02 Sep 2024, 09:19I would say Maupay’s actions were far worse than Watkins. Watkins saw an opportunity and took it. He didn't care that we were x leagues below them and they should have beaten us comfortably. He was sticking out to us because they had scored and in doing so he was treating us the same way he would have done any other Chanpionship or Premier League side, (whatever they were at the time).
That's sort of what I was hinting about in another thread. This sort of win at all costs mentality no matter what. I'm not sure he's even classed as an elite player, but he certainly has elite player mentality.

Your first paragraph is horrible. You do not know the player, yet you make such unpleasant comments.Jimbokav1971 wrote: ↑02 Sep 2024, 16:27I'm the other way. I presume you don't know about his work with Brentford Penguins, the Downs Syndrome charity?

No I didn’t, but I speak as I find and if you choose to disagree so be it. I won’t be losing any sleep over your viewpointbecbee wrote:Your first paragraph is horrible. Re: Bees related injustices, grudges and righteous indignation
Thanks for highlighting this Becbee. You are completely right that I didn't know that about him, and I don't pretend to know the "man". I/we are not talking about the man, (at least I'm not). I'm talking specifically about the footballer. Of course we don't "know" any footballers properly. We just know them as footballers. That's what i'm talking about and stand by it. He's an absolute gold-plated shit-house. My point was that he's a shit-house, (as a footballer), to absolutely everyone and doesn't pick and choose selectively. Love the fact that his chartiy work has been recognised. Well done him. That doesn't in any way detract from the absolute elite levels of shithousery that he shows on the pitch on a regular and consistent basis.becbee wrote: ↑02 Sep 2024, 17:36Your first paragraph is horrible. That was strangest game I have ever been to.simmosenior wrote: ↑01 Sep 2024, 20:47 1. Kevin Johnson, the referee when we were forced to play water polo, instead of football, against Luton on New Year's Day 2014. He appeared to call the game off when the pitch became obviously unplayable but when John Still, then the Luton manager, protested allowed the game to continue. We eventually lost 2-1. Graham Stack got injured in the conditions and had to be replaced in goal by Nicky Jupp.
Never thought the game would finish so when Luton scored their goals it was as if meh don't matter as game wont finish anyway.
