Voices of Barnet
Voices of Barnet
I was thrilled to read on Facebook that the club is advertising for paid commentators. I am looking forward to their labours.
It got me thinking about the voices of Barnet FC.
Dick Rolfe of course was the King of the Tannoy for many years.
Garry Lakin was the voice of Hospital Radio Barnet for many moons too.
Craig Saul has been doing the announcements for quite some time now.
Dean Martin (not the Rat Pack one) from Capital Gold was the voice of Barnet for a while.
Tony Hammond was an able stand-in on occasion.
Karl Bates and Barry Swain were regular commentators. Karl even has his voice / a quote immortalised in the National Football Museum.
In modern times, Mem, Chas and Iain and others including Carla Devine and Michael Hanley have thrilled the internet with their Beespod musings.
Craig Clayton, Iain Dalziel and James Harrison did some great nostalgic Downhill Second Half podcasts.
Indeed the name Clayton reminds me that Barnet used to sell VHS recordings with his Dad John, and Uncle involved and I believe the sober offerings of Henry Strevens.
James Harpin and others have carried on that mantle with Bee Brief and James' Nan too on his previous work.
John Motson gets an honourable mention for never failing to get a Barnet reference into his commentaries.
Tom Watts has been master of ceremonies at a number of events.
And who can forget the unique Loudmouth?
Any that I have missed out?
Who preceded Dick back in the day?

Re: Voices of Barnet
Geoff Richard’s was my co-announcer with me at my beginnings. Then Dave Best for a few seasons followed by Craig who is still doing a grand job. That twat from talksport, Ian Abrahams (the moose) did it for one game and managed to get the team who we were playing wrong. Before me, not sure, he just stopped doing it, never knew why but Tom Hill, the then chairman, asked Geoff and me to have a go.

Love that guy. Worthy of a Lester Finch.CrawleyBee wrote: ↑04 Sep 2024, 16:37“Come on Barnet, come on Barnet!” Man from main stand at Underhill and East stand at The Hive.John Hunt wrote: ↑04 Sep 2024, 16:03 I was thrilled to read on Facebook that the club is advertising for paid commentators. Re: Voices of Barnet
Anyone else remember the Geordie guy (John??) on the Underhill East Terrace circa mid-90’s?
Famous for telling the opposition in no uncertain terms that it was unlikely they would benefit much from the game!

Re: Voices of Barnet
Statto and then Westie doing the twist. What happened to them? Miss that as a theme tune to Barnet winning

Re: Voices of Barnet
There was also the random dog barking someone used to make on east terrace...I just accepted as normal behaviour!

Of course. Statto strutting his stuff in the Middle East, lured by the big bucks perhaps and Westie less so by the lure of Hadley.

Of course if we are including the Voices of the terraces, the man of 1500 consecutive home appearances Steve Percy can often be heard above the throng sharing his opinions.

Not forgetting hhbee, "Why aren't we winning?" , immediately after kick off.
Re: Voices of Barnet
Dean Martin often pops up on Boom radio
Re: Voices of Barnet
And Reinaldo "Ronald" Hill often can be heard having a hissy fit still.
