Gateshead (Away) The Heed of The Table Match Thread

Post: # 379861Post Bee_Forever »

So....... Saturday sees the bees take the long journey north to Gateshead to take on the table topping tynesiders in the latest Banarama fixture.

Gateshead has had a chequered history from re-forming in 1977 to being expelled from the National League due to financial issues and last season was no exception with Williamson leaving to manage the franchise scum and his replacement Rob Elliot guiding the Heed to the playoffs only to see their hopes scuppered by the local council refusing to provide a bond on the Athletics Stadium. Despite all of these difficulties and the injury to their talisman Greg Olley, they have built up a Heed of steam and sit atop the conference on 14 points. Their dynamic style of play has also proven tricky for Brennan whose record against top 6 teams is erratic as his choices of touchline attire with Gateshead doing the double over us last season.

For Barnet a pretty dreadful performance against Maidenhead was washed away in a magnificent tide of 7up as we took Tamworth to the slaughterhouse. While it seems almost redundant to say that Gateshead will form a sterner test Brennan will be hoping that the 7th match in the season proves lucky for him.

In terms of team lineup I hope that Tavares being pulled at half time was precautionary but if not I am sure that Shelton will prove a more than able deputy. This is a game for experience so I would also go for Ayres Rock over Seven Seasons providing he is fit enough to start.

---------------------------------------Hayes------------------------------------------

-------------------Kizzi--------------Oluwu--------------Kenlock--------------------

-----Hall-Johnson-----------Tavares----------Hartigan---------------Glover------

---------------------------Chapman-------------------Brunt---------------------------

------------------------------------------Stead------------------------------------------

Subs: Happy, Rye, Kanu, Wilkinson, Shelton, Kabamba, Okimo

I am missing this one as trains were not an option and you can only spend 10 hours in a tin can for an away fixture so many times.

Good luck to those travelling. Would be delighted with a point but who knows we may get more.

Gateshead have started well. They're a good side and have been for a few years now. If we can snatch a win this weekend, there's a good chance we will be top by 5pm. Although Eastleigh play Tamworth, I can see the Lambs going out to prove a point after we gave them a pasting last time out.

That club and ground...I'm still traumatised by that FA Trophy Semi-Final. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows all within a 10 minute period. Football.

And then the league game last season, probably the most complete first 20 mins we had all season, missed about 45 chances, then managed to concede an absolute screamer. Kabamba comes off injured and RHJ misses an open goal in the last minute. Despise that place :D

Good memories from the Martin Allen days, vaguely remember a late Jake Hyde winner.

Remember a 3-2 win there in early 80s, when I was a Durham student.

A very complete 2-0 Martin Allen success was enjoyed there around October of the 2014-15 title campaign. Elliot Johnson in midfield if I recall. My only visit.

Dislike Gateshead and Chelmsford's grounds for the same reason - the awful view at an athletics stadium. Chelmsford I'll go to because it's a short journey. Gateshead is just too far for a poor view. Once was enough. If they ever get a new ground I'd feel differently.

We actually won our first 5 games there and I've still not seen us lose (other than on pens) in 6 visits (if I include the one where the coach broke down & only saw the last 12 minutes!)

I was on that coach. If I remember correctly we scored a penalty just after we arrived.

And then for the following away game at Alty, the coach broke down again!
