Gateshead (Away) The Heed of The Table Match Thread
Re: Gateshead (Away) The Heed of The Table Match Thread
have we entered Fairclough job for life territory here? Seems so!
Re: Gateshead (Away) The Heed of The Table Match Thread
That first goal is unbelievably poor. They had 4/5 players behind our defence who could have tapped that in. All our players were standing still

Dean Brennan has already been a championship winning manager at his previous club.

Today's commentators made the same observations others of their profession have made this season. First they were surprised that DB did not change his tactics despite the fact that what we were doing wasn't working and, secondly, whenever we got into the "final third" we were so ineffective.
Commentators always compliment us on our style of play and say that we are "one of the favourites". We flatter to deceive. In any sport it is results that count, not apparent style or reputation.
DB has not progessed in his thinking since last season. Some say we have lots of injuries, all teams do. We are not unique.
Having watched 4 games live and the rest on line I have to agree with the commentators.
We are a playoff team hoping for promotion rather than an expectant champion team.

Also to add, Dean kept the players out and did an extremely long team talk with them post match. He was fuming to put it lightly.

He can’t put the ball in the goal for them.

Unfortunately he can’t score for the players. We created a lot of chances today but a fair few of them came at 2-0 down. Would’ve liked to see us go short more, Gateshead are brilliant at playing out from the back but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they press high really well. We’ve got the people in our team to pass the ball, we’ve seen it in every game this season. We always have a few games when Dean decides to go a bit more direct, Gateshead being one of them and I’m not sure as to why.

He could sign a striker whose job that is though, rather than playing number 10s as lone strikers and then wondering why we don’t convert chances.WestHampsteadBee wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 20:05He can’t put the ball in the goal for them.

I can't see why he was fuming with them. I appreciate that I only watched on NLTV and that the first goal was poor but overall it was not a performance which warranted fuming at them. I thought he should have taken some responsibility for Maidenhead defeat and he cannot absolve himself totally of responsibility for today.
I do hope that in his post match interview he paid thanks to the travelling supporters. 148 fans for a match at the other end of the country is an excellent turn out.

We’ll be lucky to get an interview by the looks of thingsbecbee wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 20:19 I can't see why he was fuming with them. Question on DB’s post match comments.
What’s the difference between the EFL and National league sub rules?

Re: Gateshead (Away) The Heed of The Table Match Thread
Is EFL still 3 subs from 7 named rather than 5 from 7?
Re: Gateshead (Away) The Heed of The Table Match Thread
EFL and PL is 5 subs allowed, but only in 3 stoppages. Essentially a team can’t stop the game and make 5 individual substitutions because it completely kills any momentum the opposition has. For some reason the national league decided to allow 5 stoppages, so whenever a team is winning they can waste a load of time making lots of individual subs. The benefit probably evens out over a season but it’s pretty shit for teams to have an easy way to waste loads of time.

He could do, does help if the man above him approves the player/players he wants though…WhetstoneBee wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 20:19He could sign a striker whose job that is though, rather than playing number 10s as lone strikers and then wondering why we don’t convert chances.WestHampsteadBee wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 20:05He can’t put the ball in the goal for them.
