Back to Barnet September update

Since our progress report at the end of April, we have the following information for supporters by way of an update.

The summer period has been busy and has remained productive despite the holiday period for many.

Our project team has held two pre-application meetings with the Council. These focussed on the key principles of the planning case (the lack of Alternative Sites and the Very Special Circumstances case) as well as the Socio-Economic benefits the scheme will bring to the Borough. This included detailed discussions with the Council’s dedicated economic officer. The team have also held pre-application discussions with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and representatives from Transport for London (TfL) with their formal feedback covering a range of topics.

Feedback from the GLA and the Council has enabled the technical teams to refine their scopes. The application is now taking further shape and the architects continue to polish the scheme design. Upon revision of the next stage of the design, the Club will be in a position to hold its first public consultation session and we hope to be able to publish details of this shortly. We hope the local residents and community groups will show their support in bringing Barnet back to its historic home at these sessions.

Barnet FC would also like to express our continued thanks for all the support received via the Bring Barnet Back campaign. It has been fantastic to see and it really shows how much this means to our supporters, as they have come together in their numbers and made some brilliant headway in their endeavours.

Great news that progress is being made, it'll be fascinating to see what presumably will be the final plans, when the public consultation is launched.

The latest images on the club site are interesting.

They suggest TK is not going too big on the size of the planned stadium, the stands look quite low on 3 sides. I would put a guess of 6-8,000 capacity with the ability to later double it by increasing those smaller stands to match the bigger one

Looks like a 5,000-6,000 capacity to me judging by the picks. Historically we have absolutely no need to go any higher that 6,000, and it may negatively affect the bid if we up it.

Small stands 8-10 rows
800-1000 each end
1500-2000 side

Main stand 16-20 rows plus hospitality above .
2500-3500.

So somewhere between 5,600 and 7,500.

Be very surprised if it comes in under 6,000.

I'm not sure this rule applies anymore, but there was a time when the EFL insisted on a capacity of 6000 with 2000 seats - it was talked about a lot when we were at Underhill, because we couldn't make the stadium big enough to reach that criteria.

Even if that's no longer the case, I'd be very surprised if TK didn't make sure we were above that capacity, in case things change again in the future.

Judging by the pictures, future growth has been factored into the design. The most important aspect of the new stadium is to get a spade into the ground so it makes sense to make the stadium as inconspicuous as possible
