Anyway, in all of this, I fear we’re all overlooking the real controversy of last night which is Browne wearing number 8 as a forward

Last nights winner did make me think, we can have all these patterns of play and work the ball in the box, but you still cant beat a direct, long throw into the box.
Re: Altrincham (Hive) The Alty Small Things Match Thread
Seemed a very different approach last night each time the ball was passed back to Hayes it was launched down field as oppose playing out from the back with varying degrees of success but I guess brunt and stead would rather the ball at their feet as oppose battling centre backs 35 yards out in the air. Wonder if this was due to the weather, the opposition etc. great to get another late win, Braintree really struggling to find the net of late so Saturday as long as the squad are focused and composed which I have no doubt DB will make them should be another 3 points making a good response to the Gateshead result and push us into the top 3/4 I'd imagine.

Good post with facts and good understanding of the game , not just national league level but higher up, refering to toxic attuide of fans in general.Tuesds wrote: ↑10 Sep 2024, 22:50To Aymen Azaze, Sam Beard, Laurie Walker and all the other Bees players on the list of those who’ve been slammed by Brennan in post-match interviews you can now add us, the fans!
As someone who only ever shouts encouragement and was still doing so at 0-4 in the play-off semi and who clapped the players off after that, I know Brennan is not talking to me here… but when he does get his move to a bigger club like Swindon he’s going to get a rude awakening.
The entitlement and the negativity amongst fanbases like that is on a completely different level to us lot. In fact, I’ve always been grateful that as a fanbase ours is a lot less toxic and a lot less quick to turn on the players/management than most others I’ve come across at live games and on social media for that matter.
I hasten to add that I say all that as someone who thinks Brennan’s record for us is excellent and who loves the way we play!

Getting back to the football. Zak's pass to Harry Chapman for the goal? Receives a snap pass from Ryan Glover on the half-turn and off-balance but plays a beautifully weighted through ball for HC to score. Pass of the season so far.
Re: Altrincham (Hive) The Alty Small Things Match Thread
It was a beautiful goal. The pass into him from Glover was excellent too, took out their whole midfield.
Re: Altrincham (Hive) The Alty Small Things Match Thread
Very impressed with Glover. Great to have another player who can carry the ball, relieving pressure at the back and committing defenders in attacking areas, opening up space for others. We’ve had to rely on Kanu for that almost exclusively hitherto.
Cropper made numerous lung-busting runs down the right and was a real threat, getting in behind the Altrincham defence a few times. His delivery once he got in good positions wasn’t bad either.

We have a lot of options at full back don't we - I thought Kenlock was very good there tbh although I do think Glover is more threatening from the left cutting in.
Realistically it's Glover + 1 from: Kanu, Cropper, Glover, RHJ & even Kenlock (if not playing LCB).
We are going to get better & better IMO - but we need to keep the boys (and Dean's) confidence up & also try to have a more stable central defence.

I'm not sure which pass was better. The Glover to Brunt pass or the Brunt to Chapman. Brilliant goal.

Re: Altrincham (Hive) The Alty Small Things Match Thread
I think that's by design rather than accident, (obviously). The roles that the WB's are asked to fulfill, requires an enormous amount of distance to be covered, and it's probably unrealistic to expect players to play that role Sat-Tues. We see a significant drop-off in performances for example when RHJ plays 2 games in a week like that, and as a result he is rarely asked to do so now. Kanu on the other hand just keeps going and going and is asked to play Sat-Tues regularly, (like it appears Glover is). Crops is another who I wouldn't expect to see play Sat-Tues. The last on your list, (Kenlock), made the most appearances in a season of his career last season at Ebbsfleet with just 29, so it's probably unrealistic to expect him to play Sat-Tues all the way through the season, (even at centre-half never mind about WB).PBBee wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024, 12:16 We have a lot of options at full back don't we - I thought Kenlock was very good there tbh although I do think Glover is more threatening from the left cutting in.

The impact that Cropper made last night, (and in particular the quality he showed in advanced positions that has been lacking from others playing WB so far this season), might just get him a start at the weekend over RHJ who was pretty average at the weekend. Completely agree it's Glover +1 at the moment and I would be tempted to give Crops another run out after last night. Thought he was really good.

A shame that the post-match shenanigans is a large focus of the discussion as opposed to another late win which gets us back on track.
In any case, our man at the ground has given us the benefit of his view...

The goal to concede wasn’t great, but individually I thought the entire back line was fantastic. Would stick with it if possible imo
