York (Away) The Match Thread Marching to the Top of Underhill
So...... Tuesday sees the bees heading to high flying Worthi....sorry York City in our latest Banarama fixture as we look to overcome defeat at Land Rover FC against even tougher opposition.
Adam Hinschelwood has been well supported by the York owners in bringing his philosophy (and half of his team) from Worthing to York in a raid which Alfred the Great would have been proud of. York currently sit third, unbeaten in 6 games and looking very threatening having thumped Train Station FC 4-0 at the weekend. York is also the home of ex-bee Marvin the Paranoid Humanoid who jumped ship to join ex-boss Hinschelwood when he received the Laurie Walker treatment from Brennan last season and he will be looking to get one over on his former team as Walker, Jigsaw and Akinde all have this season.
I was in York a couple of weeks ago with my wife celebrating her birthday month (!) and it is a lovely place to visit. The Mallard at the National Train Museum is the peak of Steam Trains in my view and the intact city walls and Jorvik centre make a visit very enjoyable. It is a shame this trip is consigned to a dismal tuesday night to conserve travel costs but hopefully we will have a successful northern raid and not a moan will be Uhtred from the stands.
With Stead out injured and Tavares doing his best impression of De Magalhaes again a couple of changes will be forced and I would imagine Croaker will be rested also with 2 games a week seemingly beyond him (as was the Solihull winger). Otherwise I think we should start solid and then look to bring on our more creative players. I would not start Cropper as he does not have the legs to play wing back for 90 minutes. If he does start I would suggest it be at right centre back.

Subs: Bellagambi, Grimwood, Coker, Chapman, Okimo, Cropper, Browne?
I am doing this one by train getting back to london at half 1. Going to be a long day but I am confident if we play to our best we can pick up the three points.

With Forest Green at home to Ebbsfleet, we could find ourselves getting our best win of the season but knocked off the top of the table on goal difference. That would be pretty brutal but the reality in this extremely tough run of matches at the moment. Huge character needs to be shown after Saturday, especially defensively.

Forest Green can win 100-0 if it means we get a scrappy 1-0 win tomorrow.Psycho wrote: ↑21 Oct 2024, 16:50 With Forest Green at home to Ebbsfleet, we could find ourselves getting our best win of the season but knocked off the top of the table on goal difference. Quite annoying that we appear to be the scalp this season, Solihull and now York with seasons best attendances. No doubt that had an effect on Solihull and it will have an affect tonight. We need to be bang up for it.

Yeah, really annoying that we're top of the league. I wish we could be mid-table so we wouldn't be considered a scalp.
Jesus.

Grimwood into the team. Shelton Kanu and Brunt all start

Not much off the bench going forward for us this evening, hopefully we will react well after Solihull.

I was disappointed when watching the Solihull game that even when we were 4 goals down we continued to play at the same pace. No sense of urgency. When Brunt came on he was clearly desparate to score but Kizzi, Oluwu, Hartigan and Kenlock just kept leisurely passing to each other.
The inability to change pace may well be why we find it hard to react to teams that can do just that.
