Rochdale (Fortress Hive) The Dale Light Robbery Match Thread
So..... Saturday sees the bees taking on promotion chasing Rochdale at the Hive in another tricky Bananarama fixture.
I missed Solihull but apparently York was a carbon copy with Hayes glove as limp as our subsequent collapse a minute later having been ahead in the game based on overall play. This soft underbelly is becoming a bit of a worry away from Hive and we will be looking to get back to winning ways in London.
Rochdale have picked up 10 points out of a possible 15 in their last 5 games and will be hopeful of at the very least a playoff place this season to restore their long held league status. Sir Peter Ogden has taken over ownership and under his stewardship they have had a good start to the season.
Currently we have got Browne, Collinge, Tavares, Stead, Chapman out injured and with Kabamba looking somewhat on the wane (that's wane, not Wayne - no rumours of him chasing grannies), our forward options look limited with the midfield having to step up more often than not to provide the threat. With no sign of a replacement striker we will be relying on a bench more lopsided than if it had Matt Redmile at one end and Fuad Sule at the other with a combination of defenders and defensive midfielders the best we can call upon.
Without incurring the wrath of Dean (who called him out himself) I am worried about how long it is taking for Hayes to settle as a sweeper keeper and I also feel that Kenlock has defended more like Ken Loach in recent games, giving land and freedom to the opposition. I would suggest if the defence is looking shaky that perhaps Okimo should take his coaching on to the pitch especially with Kizzi and Grimwood looking utterly lost at times.
I would go:-
-----------------------------------Hayes----------------------------
-----------------Oluwu-----------Grrmwood-------Okimo--------
-----Glover-------------Hobson---------Shelton-------Kenlock---
----------------------Kanu-----------------------Brunt---------------
-----------------------------------Kabamba---------------------------
Subs: Bellagambin, Coker, Cropper, Clifford, Hartigan, Kizzi, Rye
I am missing this one due to a family commitment. Hoping we can get back to winning ways and restore some confidence in our shaky defence.

The whole Hayes debate has been blown completely out of proportion

Absolutely no chance that Hartigan will not start.

I wonder if we might see the new GK given a chance?
Changing up keepers is never a good thing, but I can see an argument for it and DB showed last season he’s not afraid to do it.

Good to have an experienced referee for the Rochdale game.
Jacob Miles refs mainly in Leagues 1 and 2.
He was the ref for our FA Cup tie at Newport County last season

Hoping for a lovely home win tomorrow to settle some nerves put to one side the disappointment of the last two results.

No side wins a league with a leaky defence. It is crucial this is addressed before losing becomes a habit.

In the past few seasons, we always seem to hit a sticky patch like this around the same point in the season where we concede a few too many goals. Then DB finds a way and we find some form again. Keep the faith and don't panic.
The league has no Wrexham, Notts or Chesterfield this season. If we come through this blip, we can stay well in touch at the top. We'll be in the mix come May.

Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

After our recent form I was naively hopeful that we might start to pull away from the opposition akin to Chesterfield last season rather than stay in the mix come next May. We will see what we will see.ninestein wrote: ↑25 Oct 2024, 20:46 In the past few seasons, we always seem to hit a sticky patch like this around the same point in the season where we concede a few too many goals. Chesterfield had the 13th best defensive record last season.talldarkslim wrote: ↑25 Oct 2024, 20:08 No side wins a league with a leaky defence. It is crucial this is addressed before losing becomes a habit.

I certainly fancy Halifax to get something against York today. Hopefully we can squeeze out a win at a tricky time
