Re: Rochdale (Fortress Hive) The Dale Light Robbery Match Thread
Despite the jitters of the last 15-20 mins there were some really decent performances out there today.
Hobson and Coker had strong games and Hayes responded well to his apparent recent dip in form.
It was a shame Oluwo fell apart to some extent at the end of the game because he did really well up until the mistake that led to their goal. He needs to build on what he was doing well rather than dwell on the back end of today's game.

Interesting you thought glover was good. Thought he was very poor.hoofer2 wrote: ↑26 Oct 2024, 18:31 I thought Glover looked really good in a more advanced role - and great interplay with man of match Coker and Kenlock.
Did not get going in same way on right, though Rye did OK considering lack of experience.
Some important stops from Hayes but at times is ponderous and hesitant and did not cycle the ball quickly enough giving Rochdale opportunities to regroup. I am sure this has to be partly down to playing behind a different back 3 every game, but have not seen distribution Brennan told us will bring.
We missed some good chances in first half, that we could have regretted, but got a result. Good teams get the run of luck.
Oluwu very shakey again. Defence desperately needs a Breen, Nelson, Thomson to organise things as Okimo his been out to pasture - even though was our most consistent, fit and competent defender last season.
For me we lost shape when Shelton came off, such an important player and lost midfield impetus. Kanu did not really get into the game, and would have liked to see him on right to play against their 30 whose legs had gone.
The biggest difference today was team fitness and stamina. We faded in second half with many players coming on barely back from injury with limited game time.
Great to get 2000+ crowd again. I spoke to a couple of new fans - attending first match - who enjoyed the match and will definitely return.

The most telling thing from the team selection for me was the complete omission of Kizzi. We are crying out for an experienced leader and here is Suttons L2 captain whom we paid a fee for so assuming he’s not injured I’m wondering whether DB is looking to move him on.
Such a shame for Oluwo I felt he dealt with the dangerous Mitchell brilliantly and that horrendous error aside had a good game. No respite for him with his nemesis Fondop next league game
Glover was much more impactful in the attacking midfield role, Coker was quality his overhead kick to clear off the line at the end of the first half was a game changing moment. Hopefully Shelton’s injury wasn’t too serious felt him and Harts looked good in centre mid. Nicke is lacking confidence he wasted a few opportunities and I felt DC and Clifford looked like 2 players coming back from long term layoffs.
Overall the 3 points going into a 2 week league break were all the mattered! Fine margins and this time in our favour

Agree with all, except couldn't disagree more about Nicke. With 7 goals in 8 he is suffering too much confidence. Had many chances to square the ball to players in better positions and either dilly-dallied trying to be too clever, or took a weak shot himself.DSM wrote: ↑26 Oct 2024, 18:44 The most telling thing from the team selection for me was the complete omission of Kizzi. That second half was like an extended version of the Russian roulette scene in The Deerhunter, but with only one player determined to commit suicide - Barnet.
Brennan certainly told the team at half time that they shouldn't bother to try and score more goals, just relax and pass the ball around, preferably backwards. There was absolutely no attempt to score against a obviously poor defence even when the chance arose.
I don't think I have ever felt so angry after watching a game that we have won.
We are unlikely to get promoted, let alone be champions, with such tactics.

Give me a break: what a load of garbage. Do you really think the second half was all Brennan's plan?ETBee wrote: ↑26 Oct 2024, 20:17 That second half was like an extended version of the Russian roulette scene in The Deerhunter, but with only one player determined to commit suicide - Barnet.

And if you are really angry, instead of a touch relieved / thankful / enjoying our luck, maybe you should avoid the stress - it's not healthy.
We were good until they scored. Quite why we fell to pieces after that is something that needs to be looked at, but we were much the better side for the first 70 minutes.

Thank goodness Courtney Senior did not score

And a red as Hogan had already been booked!let_it_bee wrote: ↑26 Oct 2024, 20:43Absolutely absurd decision. Nicke had picked the guy’s pocket, who blatantly pulled him down - looked like an obvious free kick and yellow card.

One thing you notice game in game out is the amount of micro managing Brennan has to do from the sidelines - far more than any other manager I have observed this season. Indicates an absence of real leaders on the pitch.

Yeah, from the safe standing section it’s really noticeable.

I also thought Glover was good. Wouldn’t really fault any of the individual performances apart, obviously, from Oluwu’s error, which seemed to leave his confidence shot to pieces (possibly should have been substituted). And of course Kabamba was well below his best. Overall I thought we just about deserved the points. Most of their opportunities were gifted to them, but their finishing was dreadful.

Very strange comment by him re Collinge, who always strikes me as a model professional. Also re other "injured" players. No calling out of individual players or the fans was pleasing for me.Uniman61 wrote: ↑26 Oct 2024, 18:16 DB post match interview I found very strange, when asked ' it must be good to have Collinge back', Dean ' s reply I felt seemed to suggest Collinge has dragged out his injury, also not sure at end of game and chances Rochdale had and spurned Dean felt a draw would of been unjust. He also said in the five games we have lost only one Solihull did we deserve to loose, not sure how he got to this view as York deserved three points from our shocking defending, and for me Maidenhead was a joke, they threatened us down our left so many times before they scored. Seems to be bad feelings for what ever reason between himself and Danny Collinge.
Interested to see what others made of his post match interview.
I noticed the micro managing from the Safe Standing area too (first time there, really interesting and enjoyable experience). Did not stop all first half. Was much quieter second half I thought so maybe should have kept it up!
