Exeter….dare we dream?
Exeter….dare we dream?
An unkind draw for the Bees sees us travel 200 plus miles to face League One promotion hopefuls Exeter City.
At the time of the draw the Grecians were on a good run of form but two defeats in their last two games has meant that they now sit in 8th place in the division.
Exeter’s league form…
P12 W6 D1 L5 F13 A10 Pts 19
From those numbers it can be seen that they are beatable but seem to have a mean defence. Much has been made of their on-loan goalkeeper Joe Whitworth. If Crystal Palace are happy for him to play against us he will no doubt be a difficult ‘keeper to get past.
But, hang on a minute! Can someone please remind me which team is the highest scorers in the top 5 divisions? With 34 goals in 16 games?
Let Exeter worry about us!
Defensively we have to be at our best for the full 90 minutes (or more). We can’t afford to lose concentration.
With just 13 goals scored in their 12 league games they are hardly prolific. Their top scorer is another on-loan player, 19 year old Kamari Doyle. If Brighton let him play he will be looking to add to his grand total of 3 goals so far this season. Nicke Kabamba and Callum Stead have each scored 7 goals for the Bees.
Yes, they are two divisions higher than us so we must treat them with respect but they are beatable and, on our day, we can beat anyone….including them!
Mr Brennan has referred to this game as “a distraction”. Piffle!
We have seven clear days leading up to this match and then seven clear days before our next league match (Oldham at home).
Let’s give it our all.
Believe!!!
Much stranger things have happened.

Least important game of the season as we can't win this competition unlike the other 3 we play in but certainly want to put on a good show. However we are due to play Hartlepool away on 2nd round day which would be a very grim fixture to have to rearrange for a tuesday night in January or February!

Hartlepool away is on a Saturday where there are no direct trains to bloody get there!jerroll wrote: ↑28 Oct 2024, 10:24 Least important game of the season as we can't win this competition unlike the other 3 we play in but certainly want to put on a good show. I'd be delighted if that were arranged for a midweek so then at least we could stream the game online

NO INJURIES PLEASE!!!
Re: Exeter….dare we dream?
Pick our best team and go for it. Get in the hat for the second round and a chance of a big tie in round three.
From a potential trophy perspective, insignificant but from a financial point of view it is always a potential route to riches.

Win this round and the next to fill the coffers up for when we need that new defender or striker

£11 in advance to stand on the old South Stand? at Exeter. Can’t complain at that.
