End of Season awards - 18th April after the Eastleigh match

Post: # 394075Post beesknees99 »

GOTS - A few contenders. Shelton v Fleet, Browne v Rochdale, Steady v Tamworth. I’d give it Shelts.

Young player - Brunt (by default)

POTS - Ryan Glover. Just an utter revelation, and far too good for NL. Could have easily gone to Harts, Collinge, Tavares, Kenlock or Stead who are also a cut above.

Most Improved - Stead (Kanu has improved vastly in the last couple of months or so, but Steady has been quietly raising his game the entire season)

Lester Finch - Deano! Honourable mentions for the Bee Brief, Beespod / Bring Barnet Back Campaign, and the Club Commentary

Great shout, although I've already cast my votes. Maybe next year

Very good shout! It might have to be Brennan this season though!

Brunt at Oldham for GOTS
Brunt for YPOTY
Glover for POTY
Deano for the Lester Finch

Really think we should move the awards to the bigger bar in the away end. Eastleigh aren’t going to have a lot of fans and will soon leave after the game.

Legends was so cramped last year, and gonna be even more people at this one. Feels like a no brainer to have it in the larger bar

How things have changed! I remember standing with a fairly small crowd the first season under Deano and some of the players were standing in groups joking and talking whilst awards were going on. Bunch of twats. Just goes to show how DB has transformed this club and connected the fans and players

What I love about what Deano has achieved is the absolute togetherness of the squad - even more than Allen's in the title winning season. They all seem to love training, being as a group, laughing but at the same time being focussed and driven.

Ndlovu epitomised this too the way he has embraced the fans - getting to know some individually ( loved the respect and attention he gave Janice before a recent home match ).

When we score the way the players acknowledge the scorers and providers.

I’m surprised Oluwo hasn’t been mentioned for most improved - he was pretty good last year but has been superb this season.

PotY is between Tavares and Glover in my mind with Tavs very slightly edging it. He hasn’t put a foot wrong all year. What a player.

The Lester Finch award was traditionally given to an unsung hero who had given a lot to the club in a voluntary capacity. There’s no doubting how much Deano has done for Barnet and he deserves all the credit he’ll get but for me the LF award is for somebody who doesn’t otherwise get the recognition they deserve. Hard to see past the Bring Barnet Back campaign team for me.

The Lester Finch is an elective award and can and has been for players, officials, supporters, campaigners and volunteers.

There have been many worthy winners who have never received the accolade most notable I think Gary Phillips.

Did Tony Holmes ever win it? If not him too.

Lester Finch award to the BBB guys for me. Whether it ultimately works or not, the work they have done deserves the award.

Tony edited the programme for many years and his widow Doreen still goes to many games. I would doubt the Lester Finch trophy had been inauguration by the time Tony stopped doing the programme.
