I think that may be the last time he wears a barnet shirt this season as he’s just proven to be unreliable in the key big moments and Dean will acknowledge that. He may well go out on loan next season
That would be very harsh given Tavares and Collinge also made schoolboy errors yesterday that could and should have resulted in a Braintree goal. Yes it’s awful defending from Grimwood but he was far from alone in that yesterday. There were stupid mistakes being made all over the pitch - it doesn’t mean those players are “unreliable in the key big moments”.

Perhaps we should rename ourselves Goldilocks FC: this pitch is to hard and lumpy, that pitch is to wet and muddy but the Hive pitch is just right!

Grimwood only suffered the same fate as many a defender has against Akinde in the past. So he should not be criticised too much.

I thought things would change when we went ahead completely against the run of play but it didn't. Usually Deano has a Plan B when things aren't going completely our way but the second half way just more of the same and we were just holding out for a point until luck went Braintree's way for once.

What seemed strange to me was the timewasting second half by Braintree's keeper? Why were they not going for the win?

First half we were attacking the far end of the pitch so maybe I missed it but did Telford do anything? Browne was a distinct improvement but with the pitch not being good I can see why he didn't start.

I suppose every team has an off day sometimes but it has put a damper on things.
Telford played a keep part in the move which lead to Steads goal.

I don’t see any overreactions. The consensus is, and I agree, that we were poor yesterday. Have to just take that on the chin. The team have more than enough credit in the bank for sure. But yesterday was a poor show all round. I don’t see anyone panicking just confirming it was a bad performance.

We can’t deal with pacey wingers and grimwood is a liability. Nope, no overreactions there!

Interestingly the club posted a video of Oluwo practicing in training against the Akinde like scenario. He did it rather excellently. The defenders had obviously been practicing so it's a shame to concede and get sent off in that way.

Anyway, no need to panic. Just shows how remarkably we've done to not lose in all this time.

Ps I also backed the Black and Amber in the races!

I don’t mind Grimwood getting rolled because plenty before him with more experience have also suffered the same fate. However, that late in the game he HAS to foul big John before he gets anywhere near the box pure and simple. Take the card. Take the point.

Big John was magnificent yesterday and I believe has played virtually every game so far this season. Just shows how wrong we were not to sign him at the start of this season.

Problem is that there will have been players currently in the squad who we'd have missed out on had we spent big money on Akinde's wages

Something about yesterday reminded me of that Northwich game in 2005, expectations, sun shining, crap pitch

I disagree. I’ve watched it over again and it’s not just a schoolboy error, it’s zero football IQ. Especially considering Big John has made those runs and won so many pens for us like that in the past. He was after all, only playing Step 3 non league a year ago.so hardly surprising. I hope he learns from it and I hope he goes out on loan.

What an odd post. We’ve hardly suffered from not signing him.

No but we certainly suffered yesterday from our usual problem of only having one centre forward at the club, forcing us to change our entire way of playing if that one player gets injured. I still refuse to believe that there wasn’t anyone we could get on loan to cover for Kabamba and then Ndlovu who would be less effective as a long striker and targetman than someone like Telford, who just clearly cannot play that role. The fact that Ndlovu might be out for a while and we have absolutely no cover (as usual) is the only thing worrying me about the rest of the season.
