Barnet Squad 2025/26

Post: # 396179Post South_Belfast_Bee »

When do retained lists need to be published by?

I imagine this part is now incredibly tough for the management after the season they’ve had, but they’ll know there are players who simply aren’t going to cut it in L2, or certainly won’t be helping our development.

I was thinking about this earlier today. I looked up when last years retained list came out - 30th April - 3 days after our defeat to Solihull.

From the recent interviews, it sounds like DB has already done a fair bit of preparation for next season, I would imagine the list will be out some time next week.

The club are not going to issue the retained and released list until after they've got back from Fylde then had the opportunity to speak to the players affected.

Too much time on my hands so here’s what I’d do with the squad:

Hall-Johnson: happy for him to leave
Coker: stay (if in an Okimo type Role)
Collinge: offer a new deal
Rye: consider a national league loan, not mad if he’s in the first team squad
Okimo: feel like he might retire?
Francis: same as Rye
Browne: keep
Ndlovu: keep, hope he does a Michael Cheek but we’d need at least 1 more up top
Stead: keep
Kanu: based off performances since January, I’d want him to stay but I can see him going
Chapman: I’d keep him, went off the boil after injury but he’s got a bit of magic in him. Can see him going though
Evans: provided he’s ok with the geography give the man what he wants!
Telford: did a job at times but not overly fussed if he returns.
Glover: an obvious keep, but I can see him being eyed up by plenty
Blower: not near the first team yet
Brunt: keep. Feel league 2 might suit him better
Hartigan: keep keep keep
Shelton: keep
Clifford: did a job but think national league is his level. Leaves with thanks
Ade: keep
Grimwood: keep or national league loan. Down the pecking order but effective in small bursts
Matjeko: see blower
Tavares: keep at all costs
Kenlock: keep but that injury could keep him out for a while so another LCB needed
Kizzi: on paper I’d say get rid but a 3 year deal might be hard to move along. Previous league 2 experience though so might be valuable
Cropper: love him, but think national league is his level.
Bellagambi: no opinion either way

Everyone has a price and if the deal is right I don’t begrudge anyone moving on, especially with DB’s track record of recruitment.

There's not really anything in there which I'd disagree with!
I think if I heard correctly from the BeeBrief pod that Kenlock's injury might not be as bad as was first feared.

That would be great if so RE Kenlock & I did wonder seeing him at the weekend moving pretty freely most of the day!

Apologies again as I know it has been discussed before but if anyone has the link to the list of players who are now out of contract that would be great.

Hard to disagree with much of this. Seems pretty sensible.

Big summer of recruitment now. We didn't do this aspect very well the last 2 times we got promoted.

PF signed players that didn't improve on what we had, and also went too defensive tactically.

MA tried to sign players with FL pedigree (Lisbie, Batt) but they were injury prone.

DB has been very good at bringing the right players in, but we need to understand the step up in quality required. One thing's for sure, I can't see him changing the way we play.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

A previous Beesting post

On the subject of this, I have been starting to worry about the amount of important players out of contract in the summer. I hope maybe a few have signed new deals and we're unaware but having a glance I think it might be as per the below?

In Contract 25/26
Joe Rye
Joe Grimwood
Nik Tavares
Myles Kenlock
Joe Kizzi
Jermaine Francis
Ryan Glover
Anthony Hartigan
Billy Clifford
Rhys Browne
Lee Ndlovu
Finley Wilkinson

Out of Contract 25/26
Callum Stead
Idris Kanu
Ade Oluwo
Zak Brunt
Reece Hall-Johnson
Ben Coker
Danny Collinge
Harry Chapman
Mark Shelton
Jordan Cropper

Transfermarkt reckons Shelton, Stead, Cropper, Blower and RHJ all have another year, but Rye and Grimwood have contracts expiring this summer. I don't know how accurate that is though.

Bright Siaw is definitely on the contracted list.

I don't give this retained list thing much thought. DB and co will get things sorted. My only humble opinion is that Kanu will leave.

Joe Rye only signed last summer on a 'long term contract' according to the official website. Joe Grimwood signed a 2 year deal last summer and that was confirmed on the official website. I never use transfermarkt as its normally miles off it.

Going off Collinge's interview on the Live from the Hive podcast, it did sound like a bit of a farewell from what he was saying, hope he stays but wont hold it against him if he does move on as he's been immense.

Yeah that’s what I thought re Collinge as well. Of him, stead, Oluwo and Kanu, he’s second on my list of keeping them, stead first (obviously ideally we’d keep all of them but in terms of importance I’d put him marginally second)
