Re: Barnet Squad 2025/26
Asked Copilot how Barnet was doing against 22 outfield players restriction. Here is the reply it's not bad.....As of now, Barnet FC appear to have 19 senior outfield players who would count toward the EFL League Two’s 22-player cap. This includes players like Nik Tavares, Myles Kenlock, Rhys Browne, Lee Ndlovu, Zak Brunt, Anthony Hartigan, Billy Clifford, and Callum Stead, among others.
However, several players—such as Jack Blower, Patrick Matejko, and Finley Wilkinson—are under 21 and therefore exempt from the restriction. Goalkeepers like Owen Evans also don’t count toward the cap.
So Barnet still have room to register 3 more senior outfield players if needed. That gives them some flexibility for late summer signings or emergency cover.
With three senior outfield slots still open, Barnet’s recruitment could go in a few smart directions:
Positions to Strengthen
1. Right Wing-Back / Right Midfield
- With Reece Hall-Johnson and Jermaine Francis released or made available for transfer, and Jordan Cropper’s future uncertain, Barnet may need a dynamic right-sided player who can operate both defensively and in attack.
2. Creative Midfielder
- While Zak Brunt and Billy Clifford offer flair, Barnet could benefit from a consistent playmaker—especially someone with League Two experience to unlock tight games.
3. Versatile Forward
- Lee Ndlovu and Oli Hawkins bring physicality, but a pacey, technical forward could add variety. Someone who can play across the front line would give Dean Brennan more tactical flexibility.
Squad Balance Considerations
- Age profile: Most of the squad is mid-20s to early 30s. A younger senior signing (22–24) could offer longevity and resale value.
- Home-grown status: Any new additions must help meet or maintain the home-grown quota.
- Injury cover: Depth in full-back and midfield roles could be crucial over a long season.
Barnet have built a solid spine—now it’s about adding the final touches.

Just as an update taking into account the last few weeks, I think we are at 22. So any moves would need to see the likes of Clifford, Francis and Kizzi moved on. However, loan players in under 21 are not affected by this cap, maybe a target market there?

We can't have 22 players registered because the 22nd slot requires it to be used by someone who's been with us for 3 years before their 21st birthday, (and we don't have anyone that meets that criteria and who is over 21 and needs to be registered).Sporting Barnet wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025, 23:12 Just as an update taking into account the last few weeks, I think we are at 22. Having players at the club and on the payroll is not the same as having players registered to play in League 2 games.
1. Kenlock. I don't know how serious his injury is. If he's unlikely to play in the 1st half of the season then he won't require registering and the slot can be used for someone else.
2. Crichlow.
3. Tavares.
4. Kensdale.
5. Collinge.
6. Senior.
7. Hartigan.
8. Shelton.
9. Osadebe.
10. High.
11. Kanu.
12. Galvin.
13. Glover.
14. Stead.
15. Brunt.
16. Browne.
17. Ndlovu.
18. Hawkins.
19. ***RWB***
20. ***#10***
21. ***#9***
Evans. (GK's don't count towards the 22, or 21 in our case).
***2nd GK***. (The 2nd GK also won't count towards our 21).
If Joe Kizzi needs an op, and isn't likely to be fit before the New Year, then he doesn't need to be registered, even if he's still going to be here.
Billy Clifford is out of contract, so unless he has agreed an extension then he doesn't count towards the 21.
Joe Rye isn't one of the 18 on my list. It could be that Kenlock will be out long-term and Joe will be registered in his absence. If Kenlock is going to be fit then I guess Joe will go out on loan.
Jermaine Francis seems to be on his way somewhere. I can't imagine him staying and not playing anyway.
Finley Wilkinson would need registering, but is more likely to leave, either permanently or on loan.
Jack Blower is U21 so doesn't need registering.
Patrick Matejko is U21 so doesn't need registering.
Bright Siaw is U21 so doesn't need registering.
Rohat Matyar is U21 so doesn't need registering.
By my count I think that means we have 3 more slots to fill. Yes they could be filled by existing players, (like Rye, Clifford or Wilkinson), but it's also possible that they need to leave in order to free up wages to bring someone else in.
It is quite possible that we will have someone at the club who isn't registered, (but needs to be registered in order to play), but who doesn't go out on loan and doesn't leave the club permanently.
Kenlock would 100% be registered if he was fit, (but he isn't), and if the prognosis is that he won't be back before Xmas then he wont be registered because it will be a waste.
Kizzi might not even get registered if he's fit, because he doesn't fit in as either a right sided centre-half or a right wing-bacl. Will be interesting to see what happens when he regains fitness.

Cropper has joined Boston, so is there's another space to fill?Sporting Barnet wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025, 22:45

There is a difference between being registered with the FA and being included in the 22 player squad to play league matches. Someone like Fin Wilkinson could remain on our books and play in Cup matches and then be loaned out at times too - the 22 player squad doesn't need to be confirmed until after the summer transfer window closes on 1st September.Sporting Barnet wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025, 23:12 Just as an update taking into account the last few weeks, I think we are at 22. Would have been nice of the club to have officially told us this, rather than a garbled quick comment that I missed first time of listening.jerroll wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025, 08:31 Dean confirmed that Billy Clifford has gone in a interview with Talksport's Ian 'Moose'Abrahams

He also says the transfer market has come back round to us wages wise and we’ll be signing more players in the coming weeks
Said Vertu trophy is a reserve team comp, carabao cup is more for the fringe players (Newport part of our pre season so suggests that game will be before the Fleetwood game) and same goes for FA cup. Essentially we’re doing the same as last season, all focus on league and anything we do in cups is a bonus.

Do any of the new players have a long throw? We've now got a 6ft 6in striker and really could do with a Cropper replacement on this front.northantsbee wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025, 07:39Cropper has joined Boston, so is there's another space to fill?Sporting Barnet wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025, 22:45

Glover does a pretty decent long throw, albeit not Cropperesque.Norfolkbee110 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025, 11:18Do any of the new players have a long throw? Really insightful interview, with more signings on the way over the next few weeks with out of contract players.becbee wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025, 09:02Would have been nice of the club to have officially told us this, rather than a garbled quick comment that I missed first time of listening.jerroll wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025, 08:31 Dean confirmed that Billy Clifford has gone in a interview with Talksport's Ian 'Moose'Abrahams

The one thing that we get with Deano is that he will answer all questions asked of him. Obviously there's only so far that he can go due to confidentiality / personal issues but apart from that, we always get very straight, open answers.
Very disappointing that he's not setting 100 points target for this season though!!!!!
