Our Youth Academy

Post: # 396450Post Berlinbee »

Our academy was previously a Category 2 academy under the Premier League's Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), but it was downgraded and no longer holds EPPP status after relegation from the football league.

With our place back in the EFL, will we regain our academy status and funding? It would be great given the talent we’ve produced over recent years with Jack Taylor, Ronnie Edwards and Mason Clark.

How does our current system function in comparison I wonder?

I’d imagine less of a priority for Brennan, but with the investment TK is making across the board he’d be daft not to bring the academy back to the level it was given that we’re in a great position to establish ourselves as a league club. We’ve got an amazing location being in London to attract the people that don’t quite make it at clubs at a higher level.

Brennan did say in the Aldershot post match interview that the success was partly down to the budget being increased this season because of the sell on fees.

This was only possible because of the products of our academy so I do hope so. Seems a no brainer for our future budgets, homegrown talent and growth as a club

Considering you get significant funding towards your academy at EFL level, I'd be amazed if TK doesn't resurrect ours over the summer. As others have said, you only need to look at Jack Taylor, EMC, Ronnie Edwards etc to see why it's such a good investment.

It’s pretty amazing how many careers came out of that couple of years in the academy. If we can replicate that I’d be very proud.

Matty Stevens too. Didn’t we also sell a player directly from our youth set-up to Wolves? He didn’t make a senior appearance and I imagine it went to a tribunal. His name I can’t remember

Hakeem Odoffin was the player that we sold to Wolves. Played in Scotland and the last few years at Rotherham.
I want to be good, is that not enough.

I think he made one, in our FA Cup tie against Newport County in 15/16!

Yep although he did appear in an FA cup game v Newport and a league game at Northampton prior to joining Wolves.
