I think what people are saying is that it would make sense to play it a week earlier. And the fact that we have cancelled our friendly on that Saturday and that Newport have also kept that Saturday free suggests that the two clubs are looking to play the game on that day, should the EFL allow them to do so. As for whether the EFL will grant any request to move the match, as you say the EFL has announced that the tie will take place in the week commencing 4/8, and that’s all we currently know…

If the two clubs do make/have made that request and it is turned down, eg due to Sky’s wishes or the EFL’s wish to keep the launch of the new season ‘cleaner’ with everyone starting on the weekend of 2/3 August, it would compound what is already arguably invidious treatment of a newly-promoted club.

Presumably trying to get permission to play it a week earlier and will use the fact that the last time there was a preliminary round it was on the weekend before the start of the season.
I'd imagne permission has already been sought and that they will announce it on Thursday.

I too am away on the 26th and hoping Sky screen it and i can watch it in Sunny Hunstanton!

If any Norfolk Bees read this do you have a local team you follow?

I hope Heacham are at home while i am there.

There’s no “arguably” about it - they’re trying to treat us like mugs !

I can see that the EFL wouldn't want 2 of its clubs starting their league programmes ahead of the rest. However we aren't talking about that. We are discussing a cup match which has arisen through no fault of the two clubs involved.

Wasn't there a season where the League Cup 1st round took place prior to the league starting? Birmingham away?
That was weird.

Playing this tie on the first Tuesday means the winner plays in Round 1 literally the week after.
Barnet showing all the flair of Rupert-the-Bears trousers, but lots more style!

Yes , in 2012, but that match was still on 14th August, the league season didn't start until 18th August. This season either us or Newport will have played 2 league cup matches before 14th!

The rocks that a lot of travelling support received from the Brum fans after the match wasn’t.

There were restrictions due to the Olympics which prevented games being played earlier hence the season starting with the league cup. That is why we only had 4 official pre season games that year.

What a wonderful summer 2012 was. The Olympics were magnificent. I managed to tick off St. James Park and Hampden Park where they played the wrong Korean anthem.
